Photography, Seventh Edition. Barbara London and John Upton. Prentice Hall 2001. A pricey, but good overview of all aspects of photography. Most useful to a beginning photographer.
Light Science & Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting. Fil Hunter and Paul Fuqua. Focal Press 1997. The only lighting book you'll ever need.

Photoshop Channel Chops, David Biedny, Bert Monroy, and Nathan Moody. New Riders 1998. While the last version of this book was written for Photoshop 4, there is much to learn about channels, layers, and masking from this book.
Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, Katrin Eismann, Que 2001. Outstanding resource for anyone using Photoshop for photo manipulation or restoration.
Professional Photoshop 6: The Classic Guide to Color Correction, Dan Margulis. John Wiley & Sons 2000. A must read for anyone using Photoshop for prepress work.

Robin Williams Web Design Workshop, John Tollett, Robin Williams, and David Rohr, Peachpit Press 2002. Good design advice, particularly if you are interested in using tables for page layout and slicing with Photoshop and ImageReady.
Charles F. Goldfarb's XML Handbook, 4th Edition, Charles F. Goldfarb and Paul Prescod, Prentice Hall 2002. Goldfarb is the inventor of SGML on which both XML and HTML are based. This is the text to have if you are interested in learning about XML.
